PDF Gozar shares free Education resources for civil services. Use this post to practise PYQs the right way — by themes, not by randomly flipping years.

Why long-range PYQs matter#
Older papers still teach:
- Core static themes that never die
- Language of elimination
- Repeated act/movement areas
- Difference between fact recall and concept questions
Recent papers add current framing, but static Modern History keeps returning in new clothes.
Theme buckets for practice#
Solve by theme, then by year:
- Company expansion and early colonial rule
- Economic impact and revenue systems
- Reform movements
- 1857
- Moderate–Extremist politics
- Gandhian movements
- Revolutionary nationalism
- Peasant, tribal, labour movements
- Constitutional developments
- Towards independence and partition
Tag every wrong question into one bucket.
14-day PYQ plan#
Days 1–2: Expansion + economy
Days 3–4: Reforms + 1857
Days 5–7: 1885–1918
Days 8–10: 1919–1947
Days 11–12: Mixed year-wise sets
Days 13–14: Only wrongs + marked questions
Do not check solutions instantly for every item. Attempt a set of 15–20, then review.
How to read solutions#
For each wrong answer write:
- Why the correct option is correct
- Why your option failed
- Source line to revise (NCERT/Wallah/Blue Book/Spectrum)
Then revise that source the same day. PYQs without repair are entertainment.
Pair with these notes#
- Modern History NCERT Wallah
- Modern India Blue Book
- Modern History Mains Smasher 2026
- Ancient History PYQs 1979–2025
- Vision Prelims 2027 Test 1
Common PYQ mistakes#
- Memorising answers without understanding
- Doing all years once and never revising wrongs
- Ignoring pre-2000 papers completely
- No theme tagging
- Inflating confidence after coaching mocks but skipping UPSC PYQs
Track a simple scoreboard#
| Theme | Attempted | Accuracy | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | |||
| Gandhian era | |||
| Reform movements | |||
| Constitutional steps | |||
Green = above 80%. Yellow = 60–80%. Red = below 60%. Repair red first.
