अध्याय 1: अर्जुनविषादयोग
श्लोक 1.1
धृतराष्ट्र उवाच | धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः | मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत सञ्जय ||

धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा: धर्मभूमि कुरुक्षेत्र में युद्ध के लिए एकत्रित मेरे और पाण्डु के पुत्रों ने क्या किया, हे संजय?
English Translation:
Dhritarashtra said: O Sanjaya, what did my sons and the sons of Pandu do when they assembled on the holy land of Kurukshetra, eager for battle?
श्लोक 1.23
योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एतेऽत्र समागता:। धार्तराष्ट्रस्य दुर्धेध्य युद्धे प्रियचिकीर्षव:॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
मैं उन योद्धाओं को देखना चाहता हूँ, जो कौरवों की ओर से युद्ध करने के लिए यहाँ एकत्रित हुए हैं, और जो दुर्योधन के प्रिय हित चाहने वाले हैं।
English Translation:
I wish to see those who have come here to fight, and who wish to please the evil-minded son of Dhritarashtra in battle.
अध्याय 2: सांख्ययोग
श्लोक 2.13
देहिनोऽस्मिन्यथा देहे कौमारं यौवनं जरा। तथा देहान्तरप्राप्तिर्धीरस्तत्र न मुह्यति॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जैसे इस शरीर में आत्मा के लिए शैशव, युवावस्था और बुढ़ापा आता है, वैसे ही एक अन्य शरीर की प्राप्ति होती है। धीर पुरुष इस परिवर्तन से व्याकुल नहीं होते।
English Translation:
Just as the soul experiences childhood, youth, and old age in this body, so too does it acquire another body. A wise person is not bewildered by such a change.
श्लोक 2.47
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
तेरा कर्म करने में ही अधिकार है, उसके फलों में कभी नहीं। इसलिए कर्मों के फल की इच्छा मत कर और न ही अकर्मण्यता में आसक्त हो।
English Translation:
Your right is to perform your duty only, but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.
अध्याय 3: कर्मयोग
श्लोक 3.9
यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः। तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
यज्ञ के लिए किए गए कर्मों के अतिरिक्त अन्य कर्म इस संसार को बंधन में डालते हैं। हे कुन्तीपुत्र, इसलिए तू आसक्ति को त्यागकर उस हेतु कर्म कर।
English Translation:
Work done as a sacrifice for the Supreme must be performed, otherwise, work binds one to this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way, you will always remain free from bondage.
श्लोक 3.27
प्रकृतेः क्रियमाणानि गुणैः कर्माणि सर्वशः। अहङ्कारविमूढात्मा कर्ताहमिति मन्यते॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
प्रकृति के गुणों द्वारा सब प्रकार के कर्म केवल प्रकृति ही करती है। अहंकार से मूढ़ आत्मा सोचता है कि “मैं कर्ता हूँ”।
English Translation:
All actions are performed by the modes of material nature. But a person deluded by false ego thinks, “I am the doer.”
अध्याय 4: ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोग
श्लोक 4.7
यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत। अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
हे भारत, जब-जब धर्म की ग्लानि और अधर्म की वृद्धि होती है, तब-तब मैं अपने आप को प्रकट करता हूँ।
English Translation:
Whenever there is a decline in righteousness and an increase in unrighteousness, O Arjuna, at that time I manifest Myself on earth.
श्लोक 4.8
परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम्। धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
साधुओं का परित्राण, दुष्कृतों का विनाश और धर्म की स्थापना के लिए मैं युग-युग में प्रकट होता हूँ।
English Translation:
To protect the righteous, to annihilate the wicked, and to re-establish the principles of dharma, I appear millennium after millennium.
अध्याय 5: कर्मसंन्यासयोग
श्लोक 5.10
ब्रह्मण्याधाय कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा करोति यः। लिप्यते न स पापेन पद्मपत्रमिवाम्भसा॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो ब्रह्म में स्थित होकर, आसक्ति त्यागकर कर्म करता है, वह जल में कमलपत्र की भाँति पाप से लिप्त नहीं होता।
English Translation:
One who performs his duty without attachment, surrendering the results unto the Supreme Lord, is unaffected by sinful action, as the lotus leaf is untouched by water.
श्लोक 5.18
विद्याविनयसंपन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि। शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो विद्या और विनय से युक्त ब्राह्मण में, गाय में, हाथी में, कुत्ते में और चाण्डाल में समान दृष्टि रखते हैं, वे पण्डित हैं।
English Translation:
The humble sages, by virtue of true knowledge, see with equal vision a learned and gentle brahmana, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a dog-eater (outcaste).
अध्याय 6: ध्यानयोग
श्लोक 6.5
उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत्। आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मनः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
मनुष्य को स्वयं द्वारा ही अपने आत्मा को उन्नत करना चाहिए, न कि उसे अवनति की ओर ले जाना चाहिए। आत्मा ही मनुष्य का मित्र है और आत्मा ही उसका शत्रु है।
English Translation:
One must elevate, not degrade, oneself by one’s own mind. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as well.
श्लोक 6.6
बन्धुरात्मात्मनस्तस्य येनात्मैवात्मना जितः। अनात्मनस्तु शत्रुत्वे वर्तेतात्मैव शत्रुवत्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जिसने आत्मा द्वारा आत्मा को जीत लिया है, उसके लिए आत्मा मित्र के समान है। लेकिन जिसने आत्मा को नहीं जीता है, उसके लिए आत्मा शत्रु के समान है।
English Translation:
For one who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his very mind will be his greatest enemy.

मनुष्यानां सहस्रेषु कश्चिद्यतति सिद्धये। यततामपि सिद्धानां कश्चिन्मां वेत्ति तत्त्वतः॥

हजारों मनुष्यों में कोई एक ही सिद्धि प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रयास करता है, और उन सिद्धियों में से भी कोई एक ही मुझे वास्तव में जान पाता है।
English Translation:
Out of many thousands among men, one may endeavor for perfection, and of those who have achieved perfection, hardly one knows Me in truth.
श्लोक 7.7
मत्तः परतरं नान्यत्किञ्चिदस्ति धनञ्जय। मयि सर्वमिदं प्रोतं सूत्रे मणिगणा इव॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
हे धनञ्जय, मुझसे श्रेष्ठ कुछ भी नहीं है। यह सम्पूर्ण जगत मुझमें इस प्रकार ओतप्रोत है, जैसे सूत्र में मणिगण।
English Translation:
O Dhananjaya, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread.
अध्याय 8: अक्षरब्रह्मयोग
श्लोक 8.5
अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम्। यः प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशयः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो व्यक्ति अन्तकाल में मुझको ही स्मरण करते हुए शरीर को त्यागता है, वह मेरे भाव को प्राप्त होता है। इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।
English Translation:
Whoever, at the end of life, quits his body remembering Me alone at once attains My nature. Of this, there is no doubt.
श्लोक 8.6
यं यं वाऽपि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेवरम्। तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावितः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
हे कुन्तीपुत्र, अन्तकाल में जो भी भाव मनुष्य स्मरण करते हुए शरीर त्यागता है, वह उसी भाव को प्राप्त होता है, क्योंकि वह सदा उसी भाव से भावित रहा है।
English Translation:
Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kunti, that state he will attain without fail.
अध्याय 9: राजविद्याराजगुह्ययोग
श्लोक 9.22
अनन्याश्चिन्तयन्तो मां ये जनाः पर्युपासते। तेषां नित्याभियुक्तानां योगक्षेमं वहाम्यहम्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो अनन्यभाव से मेरा स्मरण करते हुए मेरी उपासना करते हैं, उनके योगक्षेम का वहन मैं स्वयं करता हूँ।
English Translation:
To those who are constantly devoted and who worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
श्लोक 9.27
यत्करोषि यदश्नासि यज्जुहोषि ददासि यत्। यत्तपस्यसि कौन्तेय तत्कुरुष्व मदर्पणम्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
हे कुन्तीपुत्र, जो भी तू करता है, जो भी खाता है, जो भी होम करता है, जो भी दान देता है, जो भी तपस्या करता है, वह सब मुझको अर्पण कर।
English Translation:
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform, do that, O son of Kunti, as an offering to Me.
अध्याय 10: विभूतियोग
श्लोक 10.8
अहं सर्वस्य प्रभवो मत्तः सर्वं प्रवर्तते। इति मत्वा भजन्ते मां बुधा भावसमन्विताः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
मैं ही सबका उद्गम हूँ; मुझसे सब कुछ प्रवर्तित होता है। इस प्रकार समझकर ज्ञानीजन भाव सहित मेरी उपासना करते हैं।
English Translation:
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.
श्लोक 10.20
अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः। अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
हे गुडाकेश, मैं सब प्राणियों के हृदय में स्थित आत्मा हूँ। मैं ही प्राणियों का आदि, मध्य और अन्त हूँ।
English Translation:
I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings.
अध्याय 11: विश्वरूपदर्शनयोग
श्लोक 11.32
श्रीभगवानुवाच | कालोऽस्मि लोकक्षयकृत्प्रवृद्धो लोकान्समाहर्तुमिह प्रवृत्तः। ऋतेऽपि त्वां न भविष्यन्ति सर्वे येऽवस्थिताः प्रत्यनीकेषु योधाः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
भगवान बोले: मैं समय हूँ, जो सबका संहारक हूँ और यहाँ सब लोकों का संहार करने के लिए प्रवृत्त हुआ हूँ। तेरे बिना भी, जो प्रतिपक्षी सेना में स्थित योद्धा हैं, वे सब नहीं रहेंगे।
English Translation:
The Blessed Lord said: I am time, the great destroyer of the world, and I have come here to engage all people. With the exception of you (the Pandavas), all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.
श्लोक 11.55
मत्कर्मकृन्मत्परमो मद्भक्तः सङ्गवर्जितः। निर्वैरः सर्वभूतेषु यः स मामेति पाण्डव॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो मनुष्य मेरे लिए कर्म करता है, मुझको ही परम मानता है, मेरा भक्त है, आसक्ति से रहित है और सब प्राणियों में वैरभाव से रहित है, वह मुझको प्राप्त होता है, हे पाण्डव।
English Translation:
He who does work for Me, who looks upon Me as the supreme goal, who is devoted to Me, free from attachment, and without hatred for any creature, O Pandava, comes to Me.
अध्याय 12: भक्तियोग
श्लोक 12.13-14
अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च। निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी॥ सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयः। मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो सब प्राणियों से द्वेषरहित, मित्रवत और दयालु है, जो ममता और अहंकार से मुक्त है, जो सुख-दुःख में सम है, जो क्षमाशील है। जो सदा संतुष्ट है, योगी है, आत्मसंयमी है, दृढ़ निश्चय वाला है, जिसकी मन-बुद्धि मुझमें अर्पित है, ऐसा मेरा भक्त मुझे प्रिय है।
English Translation:
He who is without malice towards any being, who is friendly and compassionate, free from possessiveness and ego, balanced in pleasure and pain, and forgiving. Ever content, steady in meditation, self-controlled, and possessed of firm conviction, with mind and intellect dedicated to Me – such a devotee of Mine is dear to Me.
श्लोक 12.18-19
समः शत्रौ च मित्रे च तथा मानापमानयोः। शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु समः सङ्गविवर्जितः॥ तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येन केनचित्। अनिकेतः स्थिरमतिर्भक्तिमान्मे प्रियो नरः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो शत्रु और मित्र में, मान-अपमान में सम है, जो सर्दी-गर्मी, सुख-दुःख में सम है, जो आसक्ति से रहित है। जो निन्दा-स्तुति में सम, मौनी, जो किसी भी अवस्था में संतुष्ट, गृहहीन, स्थिरबुद्धि और भक्तिमान है, वह पुरुष मुझे प्रिय है।
English Translation:
He who is equal to friend and foe, balanced in honor and dishonor, in heat and cold, in pleasure and pain, free from attachment. Taking praise and blame alike, silent and content with anything, homeless, steady-minded, and full of devotion – that person is dear to Me.
अध्याय 13: क्षेत्र-क्षेत्रज्ञविभागयोग
श्लोक 13.22
पुरुषः प्रकृतिस्थो हि भुङ्क्ते प्रकृतिजान्गुणान्। कारणं गुणसङ्गोऽस्य सदसद्योनिजन्मसु॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
पुरुष (आत्मा) प्रकृति में स्थित रहकर प्रकृति से उत्पन्न गुणों का अनुभव करता है। गुणों के संयोग से ही वह अच्छे और बुरे योनि में जन्म लेता है।
English Translation:
The soul within the body is bound by nature’s qualities. The attachment to these qualities is the reason for birth in good and evil wombs.
श्लोक 13.28
समं सर्वेषु भूतेषु तिष्ठन्तं परमेश्वरम्। विनश्यत्स्वविनश्यन्तं यः पश्यति स पश्यति॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो परमेश्वर को सब भूतों में समभाव से स्थित देखता है, जो नाशवानों में भी अविनाशी है, वही वास्तव में देखता है।
English Translation:
He truly sees who sees the Supreme Lord existing equally in all beings, the unperishing within the perishing.
अध्याय 14: गुणत्रयविभागयोग
श्लोक 14.5
सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणाः प्रकृतिसम्भवाः। निबध्नन्ति महाबाहो देहे देहिनमव्ययम्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
हे महाबाहो, सत्त्व, रजस् और तमस् – ये प्रकृति से उत्पन्न तीन गुण हैं, जो अविनाशी आत्मा को शरीर में बांधते हैं।
English Translation:
O mighty-armed one, the modes of goodness, passion, and ignorance, born of nature, bind the imperishable soul to the body.
श्लोक 14.26
मां च योऽव्यभिचारेण भक्तियोगेन सेवते। स गुणान्समतीत्यैतान्ब्रह्मभूयाय कल्पते॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो व्यक्ति अनन्य भक्ति योग द्वारा मेरी सेवा करता है, वह इन तीनों गुणों को पार कर जाता है और ब्रह्म को प्राप्त होता है।
English Translation:
One who engages in full devotional service, unfailing in all circumstances, at once transcends the modes of material nature and thus comes to the level of Brahman.
अध्याय 15: पुरुषोत्तमयोग
श्लोक 15.7
ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूतः सनातनः। मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
इस जीव जगत में स्थित जीवात्मा मेरा ही सनातन अंश है। वह प्रकृति में स्थित मन और छह इन्द्रियों को खींचता है।
English Translation:
The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind.
श्लोक 15.15
सर्वस्य चाहं हृदि सन्निविष्टो मत्तः स्मृतिरज्ञानमपोहनं च। वेदैश्च सर्वैरहमेव वेद्यो वेदान्तकृद्वेदविदेव चाहम्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
मैं सबके हृदय में स्थित हूँ। मुझसे ही स्मृति, ज्ञान और अपोहान (भूलना) होता है। सब वेदों द्वारा मैं ही जानने योग्य हूँ, मैं ही वेदान्त का कर्ता और वेद का ज्ञाता हूँ।
English Translation:
I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge, and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known; indeed, I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.
अध्याय 16: दैवासुरसम्पद्विभागयोग
श्लोक 16.21
त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः। कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत्॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
यह तीन प्रकार का नरक के द्वार आत्मा के विनाश के लिए है – काम, क्रोध और लोभ। इसलिए इस तीनों को त्याग देना चाहिए।
English Translation:
There are three gates leading to this hell – lust, anger, and greed. Every sane man should give these up, for they lead to the degradation of the soul.
श्लोक 16.24
तस्माच्छास्त्रं प्रमाणं ते कार्याकार्यव्यवस्थितौ। ज्ञात्वा शास्त्रविधानोक्तं कर्म कर्तुमिहार्हसि॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
इसलिए, शास्त्र तेरे लिए कार्य और अकार्य का प्रमाण है। शास्त्र विधानों को जानकर, तुझे यहाँ कर्म करना चाहिए।
English Translation:
Therefore, the scriptures are your guide in determining what should be done and what should not be done. Knowing the scriptural injunctions, you should act accordingly.
अध्याय 17: श्रद्धात्रयविभागयोग
श्लोक 17.15
अनुद्वेगकरं वाक्यं सत्यं प्रियं हितं च यत्। स्वाध्यायाभ्यसनं चैव वाङ्मयं तप उच्यते॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जो वाणी उद्वेग (कष्ट) न देने वाली, सत्य, प्रिय और हितकारी है, और जो स्वाध्याय (अध्ययन) और अभ्यास में लगी हुई है, वह वाणी तप कहलाती है।
English Translation:
Austerity of speech consists in speaking words that are truthful, pleasing, beneficial, and not agitating to others, and also in regularly reciting Vedic literature.
श्लोक 17.16
मनःप्रसादः सौम्यत्वं मौनमात्मविनिग्रहः। भावसंशुद्धिरित्येतत्तपो मानसमुच्यते॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
मन की प्रसन्नता, सौम्यता, मौन, आत्मसंयम और भावों की शुद्धता – यह सब मानसिक तप कहलाता है।
English Translation:
Serenity of mind, gentleness, silence, self-control, and purity of thought are the austerities of the mind.
अध्याय 18: मोक्षसंन्यासयोग
श्लोक 18.66
सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज। अहं त्वां सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुचः॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
सब धर्मों को त्यागकर केवल मेरी शरण में आ। मैं तुझे सब पापों से मुक्त कर दूंगा। तू शोक मत कर।
English Translation:
Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.
श्लोक 18.78
यत्र योगेश्वरः कृष्णो यत्र पार्थो धनुर्धरः। तत्र श्रीर्विजयो भूतिर्ध्रुवा नीतिर्मतिर्मम॥
हिंदी अनुवाद:
जहाँ योगेश्वर कृष्ण हैं और जहाँ धनुर्धारी पार्थ (अर्जुन) हैं, वहाँ श्री (ऐश्वर्य), विजय, वृद्धि और अचल नीति है, ऐसा मेरा मत है।
English Translation:
Wherever there is Krishna, the master of yoga, and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer, there also will surely be fortune, victory, prosperity, and sound morality. This is my opinion.
