The UPSC CSE 2024 notification was released on February 14, 2024. The application process began on the same day and concluded on March 6, 2024. The preliminary examination, which marks the first stage of the recruitment process, will be conducted on June 16, 2024. Initially scheduled for May 26, 2024, the date was postponed due to the Lok Sabha elections.

The main examination is scheduled to take place in October 2024, with the exact dates to be confirmed. Candidates who qualify in the prelims will be eligible to sit for the mains. Successful candidates in the mains will then proceed to the final stage, which is the personality test or interview.

• Age Limit: Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years old as of August 1, 2024. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories (e.g., 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates).
• Educational Qualification: A candidate must hold a degree from any of the recognized universities or possess an equivalent qualification.
• Number of Attempts: General category candidates can attempt the exam up to 6 times, while OBC candidates have 9 attempts. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for SC/ST candidates.

Exam Pattern

The UPSC CSE consists of three stages:

1. Preliminary Examination: This is a screening test comprising two papers – General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II (CSAT). It is conducted in multiple shifts on the same day.
